The pony club is the worlds largest young riders organisation, which is represented in 18 countries and has over 110,477 members.
It encourages young people to ride and have unrivalled standards of horse care and enjoy other sports and outdoor activities connected with horses and the countryside.
Membership includes personal liability insurance, new members can join up to age 21, and remain members until 25.
The pony club has an excellent training structure allowing members to take tests and take part in competitions enabling them to learn about pony care and riding.
As a pony club centre Orchard Cottage provides training for all the tests, and enables members to achieve confidence in handling and riding a pony, encouraging members to learn about ponies in an enjoyable way. Our Club is run by Andree Lucy BHSII and Judy Lord BHSAI and they have many years experience with the Pony Club.
The tests are structured as follows:
Efficiency Tests
These are the benchmark of the pony club tests. Tests are taken at recommended ages in pony care and riding. The standards start with an E test (this is a voluntary test) then from D through to A must be taken progressively. A felt colour worn under the badge shows your standard.
Progressive Tests
These are awarded in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. These can be taken in individual modules so may be considered easier for the test shy! Can be taken alongside efficiency tests or separtely. The flash badges demonstrate the level of horsemanship, riding and road sense that has been reached.
Achievement Badges
These are available in a vast number of topics including non equestrian, such as birds, trees, wildlife, stargazing and many, many more.... in fact if you gain 21 achievement badges you receive a certificate. Mini badges are also available for young members.
